Halifax Elementary School's 2013 Science and Math Day

Professors Marc Renault, Ben Galluzzo, Tom Evitts, and Dave Kennedy served as presenters at Halifax (PA) Elementary School’s Science and Math Day.  Each presenter conducted four or five sessions to highlight mathematics as a career tool and as a source of enjoyment.  Dr. Galluzzo featured mathematical modeling as a way to estimate number of cheese balls in the 5th grade sessions.  Dr. Kennedy highlighted the Mira as a tool for performing reflections with 4th graders.  Dr. Renault and the 3rd graders explored “really large numbers.”  Dr. Evitts involved 2nd graders in creating a binary-number “secret code.”  Participation in this event has been an annual tradition among Ship Math Department faculty.
